Member of Parliament for Singida Urban Mohamed Dewji
Mohamed Dewji, said he will not be seeking re-election rather, he will concentrate on family and business.
Addressing the masses collected at the People's Ground in Singida,
Dewji highlighted the development achievements made in his ten year
tenure citing projects in health, education, water and infrastructures.
"I will not leave you, I will continue to work with you to ensure
the development we have achieved is sustained and improved,” he pledged.
"It is my belief that Singida will be a role model for development and success to the rest of Tanzania,” said the renowned MP.
“My aim is to put all my strength in realising this dream and that
is why I have formed the Mo Foundation so as to make sure the dream is
realised even when I am not your MP," he stressed.
Commenting, a Singida resident Omary Rajab said; "ten years ago,
Singida was not the way you see it today, the development you are seeing
now was brought by Dewji.”
According to the resident the outgoing MP is “...humble and
whenever you run to him for help he is always ready...we pray to God to
help him in his endeavours."
Dewji’s political journey started in 2000, when he took the forms
to vie for the seat but his party told him he was too young to stand for
elections despite winning the opinion polls. Dewji respected the
decision and waited untill 2005 when he was chosen by the party to stand
for the parliamentary seat.
As an MP, he has improved most every important sector in the
constituency most significant of which is the drilling of water wells
across Singida significantly reducing the scarcity of clean water.
Summing up his address Dweji, who was featured on Forbes as the
31st richest man in Africa said his philosophy as a businessman is ‘‘do
not be satisfied with what you have got, work harder to achieve more.”
“As a government servant I think success in any field is only the
beginning to make room for further development. Although I am satisfied
that I have successfully fulfilled all my promises to the people of
Singida, I think there is so much more to be done,” he said.
"Through Mo Foundation, I want to revolutionise development and
education in Singida to serve as a model for all of Tanzania. My dream
is to show the world that a small city can do what many big cities are
still trying to achieve in terms of literacy and access to basic
facilities for all," he concluded.
