Former prime minister and (retired) Judge Joseph Warioba
He called upon members of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi Central Committee
(CC) to be very keen in selecting the nominees of presidential aspirant
who would oversee and maintain the existing peace.
Speaking at the ‘Peace Symposium’ held yesterday in Dar es Salaam,
he said the country had gone back to the years whereby people were
divided by ones colour of Whites, Indians and Africans and lived
according to their status.
He said the segregation had emerged even among the presidential
nomination seekers from CCM, there were groups which had been formed to
support the aspirants.
“Where we are today…people are isolated according to their tribes,
zones, religious and political parties…this situation is indicating that
there is no peace,” he said.
Warioba was pessimistic that people who would participate in
screening the presidential hopefuls might not make fair decision because
among them are supporters of some aspirants…they already had the
aspirants of their choice.
According to him, the number of nomination seekers for presidential
aspirants was too big and everyone had his policies, so if the
committees will not make the right decision…there are possibilities of
breach of peace.
He went on saying, “CCM is a big institution…but this time it had a
difficult task to choose the right person to vie for the position, all
eyes of people were in Dodoma now hoping that the CC will give them a
royal aspirant who will stand for dignity, solidarity, rights, peace and
accountability”.
For his part, chairman of the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, Joseph
Butiku as one of the organisers of the symposium said that the nation
was unstable with divisions …it has lost its unity and people were
entertaining corruption.
He alleged that the committee members whose obligations were to
scrutinise the aspirants had been corrupted by the aspirants who used
money to buy the presidential position, saying that corruption is very
bad and can bring the country into chaos.
“There is a network within the party which had decided to make
decision outside of their party…that network want leadership by force…I
would like to urge my political party (CCM) and other parties to follow
regulations without violating the constitution and laws as whole,” he
emphasised.
He accused the media for being bribed by the corrupt aspirants
something which made them to publish distorted information…if not
careful the media industry will also contribute to the breaching of the
country’s peace.
