Whitley Awards and Grants for Grassroots Conservationists in Local NGOs

...

APPLICATIONS FOR THE WHITLEY AWARDS 2020 ARE NOW OPEN!

When is the deadline?

Applications close at midnight GMT on 31 October 2019.

How much funding can I apply for?

Whitley Awards are worth £40,000 GBP in funding to be spent on projects over one year.

How do I apply?

Application to the Whitley Awards is open and applicants do not need to be nominated.

1. Check your eligibility

Please read the Eligibility Criteria for details of what WFN do and do not fund before applying to give your application the best chance of being successful.

Whitley Awards are for dynamic mid-career conservationists who are leading wildlife conservation projects in developing countries. Winners tend to be nationals of the country in which they are working, and are looking to scale up work that is proven to be effective and would benefit from further funding and profile boost. To be eligible, projects must involve local communities at the grassroots level and deliver practical action that is founded on science.

2. Download and complete the application form

Once you have read the eligibility criteria, download the Application Form, Budget Template AND Application Guidance from the links below. Please note, your application cannot be completed successfully without following the Application Guidance.

2020 Whitley Award Application Guidance

The Application Form is a Word document and the Budget Template is an Excel document, both of which you can save to your computer and complete in your own time. The Application Guidance PDF also includes information for referees.

Please note the Application Form and Budget Template are only available to download during the set application period (July to 31 October).  Applications made on out-of-date forms from previous years will not be considered.

3. Contact your three referees

You need to arrange for three references to be submitted in support of your application. Details of referee eligibility can be found in the FAQs Section of this website. Information on what is required of referees can be found in the Application Guidance. All references must be submitted independently to WFN by the referee and before the closing date of 31 October 2019.

4. Submit your application

Email your completed Application Form, Budget Template, photographs and supporting documents to info@whitleyaward.org. Please ensure all emails are marked with the subject line ‘WA20 application’ and include your name.

Once your application has been received we will send an email to you confirming receipt. Please be aware that this is not an automated process. We receive a very high number of applications and therefore you may not receive a confirmation email immediately.

Submissions that have multiple attachments of large file size will likely result in delivery failure. When submitting multiple files and large files (such as photographs), it is best to do this by spreading them out over several separate emails. This will keep the overall file size of the email low and reduce the risk of delivery failure. Please make clear where multiple emails have been submitted. You should send a separate confirmation email with no attachments after submitting your application and supporting images, documents, etc.

If you have trouble submitting your application, please contact the WFN office.

How to Apply

Interested applicants must download the application form via the given website.

Apply by 31st October.
