The law School
of Tanzania (lST) is a public institution, established in 2007 by the
Act of Parliament No.5 of 2007 (now Cap. 425) that came into force on
2nd May, 2017. The School was established to provide, among other
things, practical legal training for law graduates from accredited
universities and higher learning institutions desiring to practice law
in the United Republic of Tanzania.
The School invites competent and qualified candidates to apply for the following position:
JOB TITLE : PRINCIPAL
WORK STATION : DAR ES SALAAM
RESPONSIBLE TO : THE GOVERNING BOARD
TENURE : Five years, can be reappointed consecutively for one more term of five years.
AGE LIMIT :At least 40 years old but not older than 55 years
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must be a person of higher academic standing with credentials eligible for categorization as
Associate Professor / Professor of higher learning technical institution.
Holder of outstanding academic and administrative experience and capability in the area of
technical education and training in the field related to the School and eligible for registration as
a technical teacher.
Proven ability to develop and coordinate the implementation of an academic vision for an institution of higher learning.
A person
possessing ability to influence, persuade, build coalitions, networks
and ability to stimulate and encourage new ideas and development through
motivation and support of staff
and students.
Proven
integrity with irrevocable commitment to best practices in corporate
governance, with particular emphasis on integrity, accountability and
transparency.
Ability to develop and update the School's vision and direction systematically and strategically.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Be the Chief
Executive and Accounting Officer of the School and shall be responsible
to the Governing Board for overall coordination of the School; .
Exercise such
functions of the School as the Governing Board may delegate to enable
him to transact all the day-to-day business of the School;
Subject to any
directions or restrictions given or imposed by the Governing Board, have
the power to exercise supervision and control over acts and proceedings
in relation to all staff of the
School and to
decide upon questions relating to the terms and conditions of service of
the staff of the School, having due regard to the Schemes of Service;
Propose to the
Governing Board policies, programmes and operations relating to
practical legal' training, development, upkeep, maintenance and
development of the School's assets and facilities;
Supervise the management of the School's finances including budgeting, and control of
expenditure;
Promote staff
and student's welfare, good relations between the School and the
Government, the public, other institutions and bodies within and outside
the country; and
Undertake and promote other activities of interest to the School as the Governing Board may direct.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES/CRITERIA
Explicit mission and vision statements and policies, plans and procedures that complement the School's objectives.
Clear understanding of the School's legal regime, functions, objectives by staff, students and the School community at large.
Availability of adequate resources, efficient and effective allocation and utilization on the same.
Appointment of high caliber staff and high academic and administrative standards maintained.
Maintenance of harmonious relations between academic and non-academic units, departments and staff of the School.
High standards of behavior exhibited among staff and students
Quality of service he/she provides to the Governing Board.
Practical, effective and acceptable recommendations to the Board and prompt implementation of decisions of the same.
