The Tanga Regional Education Officer has defended
his decision to suspend at least five secondary school headmasters in
Muheza District and retorted at the teachers’ protest of the suspension.
In his backlash, expressed during his address of a two-day meeting
of secondary school headmasters in Muheza District, Tanga Region at the
turn of the week, Tanga Regional Education Officer Ramadhani Chomola,
heavily criticised the protest letter they sent to the Tanga Regional
Administrative Secretary (RAS).
Chomola said he was surprised by the decision, to write the letter
to the RAS protesting the decision made by his office and he even went a
step further and alleged potential incitement of the teachers by a
third party.
“Our office considered a lot of things before suspending them, and there are many reasons to support that,” he emphasised.
Leaderships and management in most public secondary schools in the
district were recently reshuffled and restructured with some headmasters
being fired, transferred, promoted and others suspended.
The Muheza District Education Officer for secondary schools, Lusajo
Gwakisa, mentioned seven of them who were transferred (with their
secondary schools in brackets) as follows, Beatrice Cheyo (Chief
Mang’enya to Pande Darajani), Ramadhan Ramadhani (Mkuzi to Chief
Mange’nya) and Omari Kijavaa (Kerenge to Kwafungo).
He mentioned those who were suspended (with names of their
secondary schools in brackets) as Steven Kibaha (Potwe), Iddi Msami
(Shebomeza), Emmanuel Mshami (Misalai), Amina Chambo (Pande Darajani)
and David Ngirisho (Kigombe).
He said the teachers had been suspended for various reasons at
their work stations and the Muheza District Executive Director, Adriano
Jungu, confirmed and approved the changes.
