The IPP Executive Chairman also handed 1m/- in cash prizes to nine
other winners whose ideas entered the top ten shortlisted from some 9437
ideas sent via his twitter account - @regmengi.
The winning idea by Kibonajaro is an online accounting software
called Straight Book targeting 3.1 million Small and Medium Enterprises
(SMEs) offering them businesses management services and that the
software is already in use.
He said the prize he has received will help expand the business by installing the software in more offices.
“I applaud Dr Mengi for introducing this competition. With the
reward, I can now move to Dar es Salaam where I can get more clients,”
he said.
Dr Donath Olomi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of
Management and Entrepreneurship Development and who is the Chief Judge
for the competition said the competition recorded 5060 tweets in
February and in March the tweets increased to 9437.
Speaking after handing over the prizes yesterday in Dar es Salaam,
Dr Mengi said Tanzania can move out of poverty if the country’s natural
resources are used to benefit Tanzanians.
“One of the strongest decisions that need to be taken by
Tanzanians, especially the youth, is to stand up and say we are tired of
poverty and for them to take action now,” Dr Mengi said.
Noting that there is no country whose people become rich without
utilising the nation’s natural resources, he called upon the youth to
make the best of opportunities that surround them.
He said the resources are a blessing from God and every Tanzanian
has a right to benefit from them; “I believe that, through youth
participation in this twitter competition, we can create a number of
millionaires if they use the opportunities around them,” he said.
“This can be done if the ideas given are implemented and ensure
that other Tanzanians benefit from such projects. What is important is
to believe that they can,” he added. Dr Mengi also called upon the youth
to dream big and implement their ideas pointing out that nobody was
born rich rather it is through hard work that one gains wealth.
“If you have confidence even your boss will believe in you. If you
don’t you end up being frustrated,” Dr Mengi cautioned the youth.
Launched earlier this year, the 3Ns competition will run for six
months and come to a close on June 30. The competition will see the
winner scoop 10m/- every month and nine runners up win 1m/- each, a
considerable addition from the prizes handed in the first two years of
the competition.
When the twitter business ideas competition started in 2013, only
three winners were shortlisted with the first winner getting 1m/-, the
first runner 500, 000/- and the second runner up got 300,000/-.
