Minister for Works Dr John Magufuli.
In his message, Magufuli condemned the abduction and subsequent
killing and expressed the mother of the deceased, Ester Jonas who was
seriously injured in a fight with a group of abductors, as a heroine who
was ready to sacrifice her life to save her child.
Ms Jonas had struggled in vain to save her child from being abducted by the unknown people.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Magufuli condemned the
killings, urging Tanzanians to refrain from superstitious beliefs
typical of those leading to brutal attacks on people with albinism.
“It is inhuman and an intolerable non-sense believing that a body
part of an albino person could make one rich… they cannot become rich by
chopping off albino’s body like what they did to child Bahati,” he said
referring to dismemberment of the body of the child.
He acknowledged cooperation by the management of Chato District
hospital and that of Bugando Referral Hospital in providing timely
medical help to the child’s mother.
He also commended the Regional Security Committee of Geita Region for tireless search for the culprits.
