The announcement was mid this week in Dar es Salaam by Apollo
Hospitals Group Manager, Director of Business Development Dr Vineet
Arora at Sabasaba while speaking to reporters at the ongoing 39th Dar es
Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF).
“The opening of the diagnostics centre is the result of concerted
efforts between the Apollo Hospitals Group, the National Social Security
Fund (NSSF) and the government of Tanzania,” he said.
According to Arora, the hospital will provide modern medical
equipment such as CT scan, MRI, dialysis and house a diabetic clinic.
“We will bring our doctors who will work together with local
doctors to ensure that Tanzanians minimize the cost of travelling to
India,” he added.
‘We will also use telemedicine for diagnosis and it is our philosophy to train others,” he went on to say.
Dr Arora remained optimistic that in a few years to come, the
country will have sustainable health care, and that with the set up of
the centre, resources of the Apollo hospitals will be available in
Tanzania at affordable prices.
Dr Arora cited that Apollo hospitals has already started engaging
with Tanzania doctors, nurses and other health staff offering trainings
held in India.
“Apart from equipment and infrastructure, the centre also needs skilled doctors, “he said.
“We have already agreed with the government of Tanzania that every
two to three months doctors from India will come to Tanzania to train
local doctors,” he added.
“These are few engagements but we plan to introduce many more, so
in a few years to come, the country will have sustainable health care ,”
he said.

confirmed the agreement between the two sides, “it’s another opportunity
for Tanzanians to reduce the burden of sending patients to India for
treatment,” she said.
She explained that the centre will be located at the former NSSF headquarters along Bibi Titi road in Dar es Salaam.
“It will be a super clinic where patients will get diagnostic
results, the government will also reduce the cost of sending patients
abroad,” she said.
She also pointed out that after opening of the Diagnostic Centre,
the Apollo Hospitals Group in collaboration with NSSF will lay a
foundation stone for construction of new super specialist hospital at
Kigamboni, in Temeke District.
The 39th DITF started on 28 June last month and expected to be
concluded on July 8, this year whereby the President Jakaya Kikwete is
expected to officially open the exhibitions today June 3.
