Muhimbili National Hospital
The machine will play a very big role to support government
initiatives on reducing maternal and child mortality rate in the
country.
The handover ceremony was attended by spouse of the Turkish
Ambassador Yesim Davutoglu, Charge d’affaires of Turkish Embassy Berat
Colak and Executive Director of Muhimbili Hospital Dr Hussein Kidanto
and Turkish doctors.
Speaking at the ceremony, Executive Director of Muhimbili Hospital
Dr Kidanto said. “On behalf of the Muhimbili Hospital management I would
like to thank the Turkish government and the people of Turkey for
donating this much needed device so that our pregnant women will be able
to access this service with ease. I am also very grateful to note that
this is just one of the four machines that shall be donated to us.”
“For sure this is much needed donation at Muhimbili as the hospital
receives an overwhelming number of women needing this service daily.
The doctors will now be able to detect and attend to problems earlier
some of which could be live saving. The health of the mother is taken
into consideration whilst perpetual monitoring of pregnancies in each
stage or as the doctors require”, he concluded.
Normally the ultrasound machine device donated will be used by
obstetricians and gynecologists to check babies in the womb. An
ultrasound scan, also referred to as a sonogram, diagnostic sonography,
and ultrasonography, uses high frequency sound waves to create an images
which assist the doctor to detect any problem if any and thus offer
lifesaving remedies. Ultrasound uses sound waves rather than radiation
thus it is very safe for mother and child. These machines can also be
used to create images of the heart, kidney liver etc. and thus enabling
proper treatment.
In the last two weeks, 30 orthopedic operations have been conducted
by eleven Turkish Professors in Tanzania at the Muhimbili Orthopedic
Institute (MOI), another big relief for the hospital.
