Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit (UDA-RT)
The training has been organised by the Dar es Salaam Transport
(UDA) in collaboration with the Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit (UDA-RT).
The drivers will be employed during the transition period of the BRT so that they meet international standards.
A press statement issued yesterday from the firm said the training
will be conducted by international experts in cooperation with local
ones and will be practical.
It aims at building the drivers’ knowledge and ensure that they meet international standards.
They will have to compete during the transition period expected to start next September, the statement said, explaining:
“UDA-RT, in collaboration with the Vocational Education and
Training Authority (VETA), organised this training and all international
trainers have already arrived in Tanzania.”
As the transition period is expected to start in September, the
UDA-RT, a joint company between Daladala owners and UDA, has announced
employment opportunities for more than 300 drivers. These will be
employed after the project kicks off.
“Commuter buses that will be used to train those drivers are now in
Dar es Salaam and the process is expected to start early this month,”
it said.
In addition, the statement said, experts who will train the drivers
have vast expertise on BRT projects in China and other areas where they
exist.
Drivers who will undergo the training are those who have the
ability to drive commuter buses with a height of 11 metres as the BRT
buses will be 12 to 18 metres high and carry 80 to 150 passengers.
The company has signed a two-year contract with the government to
run the project. It expects to import 76 commuter buses by next
September.
