Dubbed “media car wash”, the event is to be held on July 4 at Dar
es Salaam’s Leaders club and is expected to be attended by the media
fraternity, businessmen, government officials, artists and is one to the
general public.
Speaking to The Guardian yesterday in Dar es Salaam, the campaign
committee chairman Benjamin Thompson said the raised funds will serve to
foot medical bills and other expenses for journalists suffering from
potentially terminal diseases.
“We are holding this event to assist our fellow journalists who are suffering from life threatening diseases,” he said.
He pointed out that this is the first time for journalists to
conduct such event to help fellow journalists and as such it sets
precedence for future collaborations.
“We find it very essential to have such an event that is solely aimed at saving the lives of our fellow journalists,” he said.
He explained that at the event, participants will get their vehicle
washed for a small fee donation that will go to cater for the patients.
“Journalists, artist and several public figures will wash the cars
to raise the needed money that will go to the treatment of our
colleagues,” he detailed.
He named three recipients suffering from cancer and other terminal diseases as Saimon Kivamwo, Dastan Bahai and Athuman Hamisi.
In her comments, The Guardian’s Grace Nacksso who is the Campaign
Coordinator said the event will be repeated until the needed amount is
attained.
She named some of the artists expected to participate at the event
to include Barnaba, Ben Pol, Ommy Dimpos, G Nako and Shilole while
actors from Bongo Movies include Jackline Wolper, Odama, Thea, Vicent
Kigosi (ray) and Jacob Steven (JB).
“Participants will have their vehicles washed for donations of
30,000/-, 50,000/- and 100,000/-,” she said and called upon the
citizenry to turn up in large numbers and help save the lives of the
journalists.
