Works Minister Dr John Magufuli
Presidential hopeful Works Minister Dr John Magufuli was on the receiving end of MPs criticism over   unfinished road projects in their constituencies.

The Members of Parliament accused the minister of making empty promises citing pledged road construction works that have not being realised.

Vividly irate, Mpanda Urban MP   Said Amour Arfi (Chadema) demanded to know when the government will complete the construction of the 364km long Mpanda – Tabora tarmac road.

In his defence, Dr Magufuli informed him that the government is currently discussions with the Africa Development bank (AFDB) who have accepted to fund the construction of the road and to Kigoma South constituency David Kafulila (NCCR–Mageuzi) who wanted to know when the 50 km road promised to Kasulu District will be done, Dr Magufuli said no road project which will be left undone.
“We won’t leave any project unaccomplished,” he reassured the MP.

Similarly, Sikonge MP Said Nkumba (CCM), wanted to know when the government will complete the construction of Ikole - Rungwe Bridge to which Dr Magufuli said the feasibility study is now complete and the government will foot the construction cost of the bridge.

Special Seat Mp Lucy Owenya (Chadema) wanted to know when construction of the 80 km road from Idatu to Ifakara will begin citing that the promise to that effect was made since 2011.

Responding Dr Magufuli said the government has finally received funding from USAID for the construction of the road and the feasibility study has begun to be followed by construction works.

Answering what factors cause road damages asked by Wawi MP Hamad Rashid (CUF), the minister told the national assembly that despite the projected life span of a given road, heavy cargo vehicles are the main causes of road damages.

“The law requires the gross weight for trucks not to exceed 56 tonnes but they violate and carry cargo up 100 tonnes,” he explained.
