Deputy Minister for Water Amos Makalla
Water ministry is in discussion with the Treasury on possible ways to clear water billing debt owed to the ministry by various government institutions.

Deputy Minister for Water Amos Makalla told the national assembly yesterday that the amount owed by government institutions to the ministry had been increasing tremendously.

Short of specifying the amount in question, Makalla maintained that the institution has merely been using the service without paying the dues.
The deputy minister made the remarks in response to a supplementary question by Muheza Legislator James Mtangi (CCM) who wanted to know the status of the water debt government institutions owe the ministry.

In his basic question, Mtangi wanted clarification as to the unpaid 5m/- pledged for Tanga as part of the region’s water budget.

Responding, Makala faulted the budget deficit of the 2014/15 financial year which he said was the reason the water authority in Tanga failed to apportion the planned 5m/-.

The Deputy Minister however reassured stakeholders that at least 1.2bn/- has been allocated for the FY 2015/16 to improve water infrastructures in Tanga.
