October elections will be free and fair'

 The Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Policy,
Co-ordination and Parliamentary Affairs, Jenista Mhagama has said the National Election Commission (NEC) is determined to ensure the forthcoming general elections were free and fair. 


She told the National Assembly in Dodoma that the commission is making all necessary preparations to make sure that all aspirants were treated fairly and legitimately elected.







Mhagama was responding to a basic question by  Mtambile  MP, Masoud Abdalah Salim  who wanted to know what strategies has the government  put in place to ensure elections were free and fair.


He told the House that supporters have been advised to ensure that peace prevailed in the state during the elections and pleaded with political parties supporters not to perpetrate violence during the elections, he said. ... “make a call and we will get people to come and rescue you," he advised.


“Can the government promise the citizens that the winner will be declared legally without preferential treatment?”


The Minister of State said the government is well prepared to ensure the October general elections were free and fair, and all registered political parties participate effectively.


“The public should not worry over the coming elections because they will be held fairly,   ” Mhagama assured the public.


The minister told the House that the candidate who will be sworn will be the one who won the elections according to the law and there will be no oppression or favour in any political party.


“The government strategy towards the general elections is to come up with the specific measures which will end violence during general elections,” she elaborated. 


Adding, he said the government will ensure the rules, procedures and regulations for elections are provided to candidates, citizens and political parties before October this year.
