Forest Service Agency (TFS) in Kisarawe District, Coast Region has
revealed strategic plans to rehabilitate Pugu Forest Natural Reserve
into a world tourist destination.
"We have already built an 8 kilometer pedestrian stretch across the forest,” said Kisarawe District Forest Manager Mathew Mwanuo implying the initial stages in building infrastructures at one of the world’s oldest forest reserves.
"This will be an opportunity for Tanzanians and foreigners to come here for fun and relaxation," said Mwanuo, adding that the reserve is also endowed with rich plantation and a large number of animals including a variety of monkeys.
Pugu Forest Reserve is located in Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserve. Together with Kazimzumbwi, the Pugu Forest which was previously known as Mogo Forest is considered to be one of the oldest forests in the world.
