nt benefits or risk being locked out of her office.
The development comes but a day after CCM MPs threatened to disrupt
President Jakaya Kikwete’s final address to Parliament should the
Speaker fail to meet their gratuity demands.
The councilors issued the ultimatum after they learnt that the
cheques for their payment have not been prepared yet although the
council is about to be dissolved to pave way for the coming general
election.
They also refused to dissolve the council and taking their threat a
step further than the MPs, the councilors also threatened to attack
council’s property if their ultimatum is not met.
Seke Ward Councilor Bugoro Ferdinand Mpogomi said unless their dues are paid, they will not dissolve the council.
‘Dissolving the council before the issue of their retirement
benefits is put clear will deprive us of our statutory right,’ he said.
Reached for comments, Director Mutagurwa reassured the councilors
that they will be paid their dues before their term in office expires.
“This is as per the law of the land,” she said.
“The payment will be done before October 25 this year the
councilors should exercise patience as the central government works on
the issue,” she pleaded.
